Data Activation: ASMBL’s Data-Driven Approach to Digital Transformation

My appointment as the new VP of Data Strategy is one of several investments ASMBL is making in its data services arm, and I’m excited to unveil more of these in the months to come. McKinsey’s 2013 DataMetrics survey suggested that companies using even a single customer analytics data application acquired 23 times more customers, retained 7 times more customers, and experienced 6 times more customer satisfaction than their peers who did not make similar investments. More recently, Accenture reported that companies which have modernized their data foundations to support business use cases such as advanced analytics and AI have 2.5 times higher average revenue growth than their competitors.
Data investments clearly have potential for high returns. But merely generating data is not sufficient. In fact, it’s worse than doing nothing. Gartner has estimated that up to 97% of organizational data sits unused, which not only yields no value for data owners but actually generates significant costs—monetarily for the businesses paying for storage, and environmentally for the rest of us. (Data centers are expected to consume 3–4% of global power by the end of the decade.)
This is why data activation is so critical.
